Joanna Klakla works in the fields of scriptural painting, woodcut, and collage. For years, her artistic work has revolved around the theme of writing, in which she analyzes connections between language and writing in different cultures, attempting to materialize language, make it visible, and interpret it visually. She is fascinated by letters and calligraphy. Her main focus is on ancient written documents and mythical-magical manuscripts. In her work, the transcultural aspect of writing becomes the inspiration and basis for the creation of signs, new typefaces, imaginary letter landscapes, and meditative calligraphic panels.
Born in Krakow in 1971. 1990-1995: studied woodcut printing and art education at the Art Institute of the Pedagogical University in Krakow, Poland. Since 2002: based at Lake Constance. Lives and works as a freelance artist and lecturer at the Bodenseekreis Youth Art School in Überlingen on Lake Constance.
