Baker, Emily
Emily Baker (born 1989) is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher based in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born in Grass Valley, California, and received her BFA in Interior Design from California State University, Chico. In 2016, she received her MFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
She taught at the University of California, Santa Barbara in the College of Creative Studies as a teaching fellow and in the art department, as well as at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria and Lompoc, CA. She then worked as a full-time lecturer and coordinator for the sculpture program at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey.
Emily has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She has been a guest artist at Salem Art Works (Salem, NY), The Vermont Studio (Johnson, VT), The Steel Yard (Providence, RI), and the Santa Fe Art Institute (Santa Fe, NM) during the 2020 Labor theme, among others.
She received a research fellowship at the Hagley Museum to investigate DuPont's contribution to the textile industry, specifically the company's role in women's fashion during the rebirth of nylon's image after World War II. She presented her work at the International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art in Berlin, Germany.
Today, she is an assistant professor of sculpture at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.

She is a writer and journalist who lives in Los Angeles and New York.
She was an ArtTable Fellow in 2023, writer-in-residence at IKEA, and MOMUS Arts Journalism Resident in 2024. Her fiction was longlisted for the First Pages Prize in 2021 and was a finalist for the Ellen Meloy Desert Writers Prize and the Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant in 2022.
She is represented by Sarah Levitt at Aevitas Creative.
In addition to fiction, nonfiction, and reportage, she works in PR and as a copywriter and strategist in the fields of art, design, fashion, and architecture.
